Our 540-bed Level 1 Trauma acute care hospital is part of an organization with 6 acute care facilities, over 10,000 team members, and 400 volunteers.

Our Orthopedic Trauma unit provides specialized care for patients with various medical surgical conditions and disease processes. Nurses on this team work with multiple medical devices, such as chest tubes, NG tubes, skeletal/buck's traction, external fixators, and trachs. Injuries treated by our team include traumatic falls, motorcycle/vehicle collisions, gunshot wounds, traumatic amputations, work-related injuries, crush injuries, pathological fractures, and more.

The leadership team consists of the Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, and ADT nurse, all of whom started as staff nurses within SRHS. The Nurse Manager has a strong clinical background, including clinical education, and has led the team since its inception. She is a great leader, teacher, and mentor with extensive clinical knowledge. Our high acuity trauma cases allow us to develop strong RNs while providing exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized patient care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Identify areas for improvement and seek support when needed to ensure effective nursing interventions.
  • Participate in hourly rounding and bedside shift report to maintain continuity of care.
  • Maintain competence in new equipment and procedures.
  • Provide clinical guidance to students and ancillary staff.
  • Complete hospital and unit-based orientation programs successfully.
  • Establish a plan for ongoing professional growth and development.
