SUMMARY:

The Per Diem Nurse Practitioner will perform assessments and diagnostic procedures for patients, adhering to established standards of practice. This role entails initiating appropriate evaluations and emergency interventions when necessary, such as in cases of cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, injuries, burns, and hemorrhage. The Nurse Practitioner must possess the ability to execute physician's standing orders.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prescribe and administer medications in line with established prescriptive practice guidelines.
  • Provide counseling and guidance regarding common patient concerns.
  • Maintain and document findings in the patient's electronic medical record.
  • Engage in treatment planning sessions, clinical case reviews, and in-service training programs.
  • Be responsible for on-call coverage on a scheduled rotating basis.
  • Adhere to Universal Precautions for Infection Control and proper disposal procedures for sharps.
  • Participate in Continuing Medical Education activities to uphold certification and engage in in-service programs.
  • Comply with the professional staff code of ethics.
  • Contribute to medical staff and other related meetings and committees at Gosnold.
  • Participate in supervision sessions with a supervising physician according to the Practice & Prescriptive Guidelines.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities necessary to perform the job.
  • Education: Completion of a Board-approved master's or post-master's nurse practitioner program or another Board-approved program.
  • Experience: Proven experience in conducting evaluations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments specific to the NP's area of expertise. Familiarity with behavioral health and the ability to provide treatment consistent with professional care standards.
  • Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively connect with behavioral health patients. Proficiency in computer systems and experience working with electronic medical records.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Current licensure in Massachusetts as a Nurse Practitioner and certification from a nationally recognized accrediting body approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. A valid and unrestricted certificate with the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration Board is also required.
