Position Overview
SUMMARY:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Promptly and accurately evaluate, plan, and administer nursing care to patients.
- Communicate with practitioners to secure necessary orders.
- Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and other responsibilities as directed by the practitioner.
- Provide emergency first aid care when required.
- Monitor and document vital signs, peak flows, blood glucose levels, weight, and other diagnostic tests on-site as appropriate.
- Conduct triage officer intake screenings to assess necessity and priority during sick calls.
- Gather and document data for statistical reporting on Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).
- Accurately record information in chronic clinic and outcome study documents as needed.
- Report any reactions to treatments and medications, as well as changes in patients' emotional or physical conditions.
- Educate patients on topics such as facility policies and discharge planning.
- Document care information clearly, accurately, and completely in a timely manner, using the appropriate formats and forms.
- Collaborate and coordinate various medical services for diagnosis and treatment as directed by the practitioner.
- Adhere to aseptic techniques and infection control measures as required.
- Maintain and demonstrate knowledge of pharmacology, including drug reactions and overdose management.
- Exhibit understanding of therapeutic diets and nutrition.
- Demonstrate knowledge of social and behavioral sciences, particularly as they apply to correctional settings.
- Suggest enhancements to procedures, equipment, and supplies to supervisors.
- Notify supervisors of any medical or security incidents.
- Participate in and present during in-service education sessions.
- Execute duties within the scope of practice as mandated by state and local regulations.
- Uphold patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations as required by governing bodies.
- Supervise and delegate tasks as permitted under the RN scope of practice.
- May be required to cover shifts at various correctional facilities.
- May serve as a backup to management as needed.
- May assist in training new hires and colleagues.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Active nursing license in the state where services are provided, in good standing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with hands-on training.
- Exceptional documentation skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of the RN scope of practice.
