SUMMARY:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Efficiently assess, plan, and deliver nursing care to patients in a timely manner.
- Liaise with practitioners to obtain necessary orders.
- Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and other tasks as directed by the healthcare provider.
- Provide immediate first aid care when necessary.
- Monitor and document vital signs, peak flows, blood glucose levels, weight, and other diagnostic tests as required.
- Conduct triage officer intake screenings to determine necessity and priority during sick calls.
- Gather and document data for statistical reporting on Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).
- Accurately record information in chronic clinic and outcome study documents as needed.
- Report any adverse reactions to treatments and medications, as well as changes in patients' emotional or physical conditions.
- Educate patients on topics such as facility policies and discharge planning.
- Maintain concise, accurate, and complete records of care in a timely manner, using the appropriate formats and forms.
- Collaborate and coordinate with various medical services for diagnosis and treatment as directed by the healthcare provider.
- Adhere to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols as required.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of pharmacology, including drug reactions and overdose management.
- Exhibit knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutritional guidelines.
- Apply knowledge of social and behavioral sciences relevant to the correctional healthcare environment.
- Suggest enhancements to procedures, equipment, and supplies to supervisory staff.
- Notify supervisors of any medical or security incidents.
- Participate in and present during in-service education sessions.
- Execute duties within the scope of practice as mandated by state and local regulations.
- Uphold patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations as required by governmental standards.
- Supervise and delegate responsibilities as permitted under the RN scope of practice.
- May be required to cover shifts at various correctional facilities.
- May be requested to serve as a backup to management.
- May assist in training new hires and colleagues.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Active nursing license in the relevant state, in good standing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with hands-on training.
- Strong documentation skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of the RN scope of practice.
