Essential Qualifications:
The following standards outline the minimum qualifications required for this position, including educational background, licensure, and experience.

Educational Requirements:

Candidates must possess a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited institution in the United States or Canada.

This degree must have been recognized by the appropriate accrediting bodies at the time of graduation.



International Medical Graduates:

Those with a medical degree from a foreign institution must demonstrate that their education and medical knowledge are equivalent to that of accredited U.S. schools.

Proof of equivalency can be shown through certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.



Licensure:
All applicants must hold a current, unrestricted medical license from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.

Postgraduate Training:

Candidates must have completed at least one year of supervised clinical experience following their medical degree, which may include an internship or the first year of a residency program.

Approved training programs must be recognized by the appropriate accrediting bodies.

Examples of such programs include internships and residencies in various medical specialties.



Experience Requirements:

To qualify for higher-grade positions, candidates must demonstrate specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the federal service.

Specialized experience should include oversight of primary care programs and direct patient care across all age groups.

Additionally, candidates must possess current Board Certification in primary care, with a preference for Family Practice Board Certification.

Documentation of board certification must be submitted with the application.
