The Cable Process Development Engineer is tasked with analyzing and defining critical process parameters, establishing dependable process ranges, enhancing the overall productivity of cable manufacturing operations, and reducing variability in machinery and processes. This role requires the exploration of innovative methodologies to ensure long-term process reliability and scalability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct structured problem-solving experiments to pinpoint essential process variables utilizing methodologies such as Design of Experiments (DoE), the 5 Whys, and 8D problem-solving techniques.
  • Formulate and implement standardized manufacturing best practices, process parameters, and operational guidelines that elevate Samtec's cable production processes.
  • Create and enforce formal testing, qualification, and process validation documentation.
  • Establish in-process measurement and monitoring systems to deliver ongoing process feedback.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to investigate and integrate new technologies that enhance the quality and efficiency of both new and existing products.
  • Employ Six Sigma methodologies (DMAIC, A3, PDCA) to identify root causes and devise solutions for process-related challenges.
  • Utilize statistical techniques to perform process capability assessments to ensure compliance with critical specifications.
  • Provide guidance and support to engineering and operations teams to enhance cable manufacturing processes.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compatibility of new products, processes, and tooling with downstream operations.
  • Facilitate meetings and presentations to convey the team's initiatives and progress to relevant stakeholders.
  • Gather and analyze data from technical and operational personnel involved in the processes.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert, collecting and interpreting data to drive process improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing setting, focusing on the design, development, and production of complex assemblies.
  • Experience in launching new products and manufacturing processes into operational production.
  • Strong grasp of physics and engineering principles.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities with a focus on data-driven root cause analysis.
  • Proficient in process engineering skills, including process development, troubleshooting, data analysis, and flow optimization.
  • Experience with data analysis software such as Minitab, Excel, and JMP.
  • Solid understanding of process controls, part variation, manufacturability, process design, and cost reduction strategies.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis techniques, including Six Sigma and DMAIC methodologies.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and record-keeping abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Background in a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry, or a related field.
