Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Evaluations and Treatments: Conduct thorough evaluations and provide effective treatments to patients, including documentation as required by state licensing boards.
  • Supervision and Leadership: Supervise therapy assistants, technicians, and ancillary staff to ensure seamless delivery of care.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, caseworkers, and insurance companies to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Licensure and Certification: Licensed as an Occupational/Hand Therapist in North Carolina; Certified Hand Therapist preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in using email and interacting with Internet applications; knowledge of practice management and word processing software.
  • Certifications and Experience: Current CPR Certification; excellent documentation and communication skills; new graduate acceptable with outpatient clinical experience required.
  • Work Environment: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize multiple tasks, and maintain composure in stressful situations.
Responsibilities
  • Functional and Prevocational Skills: Practice in functional, prevocational, vocational, and homemaking skills, and activities of daily living.
  • Sensorimotor and Educational Activities: Participate in sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities designed to help patients develop or regain physical or mental functioning.
  • Consultation and Coordination: Consult with the rehabilitation team to select activity programs consistent with individual needs and capabilities.
  • Teaching and Evaluation: Teach patients skills and techniques required for participation in activities and evaluate patient progress.
  • Special Equipment and Adaptations: Design and construct special equipment for patients and suggest adaptations to their work-living environment.
  • Program Planning and Implementation: Plan, organize, and conduct occupational therapy programs in hospital, institutional, or community settings.
  • Progress Evaluation and Reporting: Evaluate patients' progress and prepare reports detailing progress.
  • Record Keeping and Training: Complete and maintain necessary records and train caregivers on patient needs during and after therapy.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Training and Supervision: May conduct training programs or participate in training medical and nursing students and other workers in occupational therapy techniques and objectives.
  • Health Promotion and Education: Develop and participate in health promotion programs, group activities, or discussions to promote client health and facilitate social adjustment.
  • Workplace Health and Safety: Advise on health risks in the workplace and on health-related transition to retirement.
  • Program Development and Implementation: Plan programs involving activities such as manual arts and crafts.
  • Job Placement and Training: Provide patients with assistance in locating and holding jobs and provide training and supervision in therapy techniques and objectives.
