Job PurposeThe ELC German Classroom Assistant will work closely with the lead teacher to provide a play-based, developmentally appropriate learning experience for students in the Early Learning Center. This role will involve creating opportunities for learning, promoting effective collaboration and communication skills, and fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities- Lead small groups of students or circulate through the learning environment to assist students.
- Help with classroom management, taking over the class if the teacher is out of the room.
- Carry out supervision duties, such as recess and lunch, and support with the preparation of classroom materials.
- Collaborate closely with the lead teacher(s) to create a seamless experience for students.
- Clearly communicate expectations with students, check for understanding, and pivot as necessary.
- Deliver lessons to a broad range of learners, including those requiring learning support.
- Build partnerships with students, parents, teachers, and colleagues to support the school's culture of inclusivity.
- Create a safe and inclusive learning environment where all voices are seen, heard, and valued.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- Native-level proficiency in German.
- Training and experience in a primary school setting.
- Understanding of the principles of second language acquisition.
- Unwavering commitment to students.
- Successful experience in an inquiry/trans-disciplinary or IB PYP environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Enthusiasm for teaching in a multicultural and multilingual environment.
- Flexibility of approach and a collaborative style.
- Commitment to equity and inclusion, inquiry-based pedagogy, and adapting pedagogy to meet the needs of learners.
- Experience teaching IB PYP is desirable, but good applicants with other curriculum experience are also welcome to apply.
