Job Title: Sr Controls Engineer

Job Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to ensure the efficient operation of plant machinery and equipment. This role also involves researching, developing, and implementing new processes, procedures, and equipment as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage complex projects, including generation of justification, total cost, project schedule, and ROI.
  • Lead the controls engineering team to ensure projects are completed on time, including ensuring team members complete required safety training, blood draws, hearing tests, and blood lead result signoffs.
  • Attend daily MDI level 5 and 3 meetings in all required areas, demonstrating strong communication skills and presenting 5 Why results in a clear manner.
  • Support the troubleshooting, adjustment, maintenance, and repair of electrical, electronic, and electromechanical automatic and semi-automatic packaging machinery, equipment, and systems, including PLC machine controls, servo motor drive systems, robotics, computerized vision systems, AC and DC drives, pneumatic, hydraulic, and other electromechanical equipment.
  • Provide manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs, including reviewing production schedules to estimate future requirements.
  • Generate project plans, perform budget maintenance, and resource coordination for assigned projects.
  • Continually develop and implement process improvements, coordinate machine preventative maintenance, and research, design, procure, implement, test, and monitor new mechanical and/or electronic systems, technologies, and equipment.
  • Direct installation, integration, and operational testing of electrical and/or electronic equipment.
  • Obtain and maintain operational efficiencies of machinery and equipment, setting and enforcing standard performance specifications on current and new equipment, machinery modifications, and/or procedural changes, monitoring performance variances.
  • Manage several projects simultaneously.
Requirements:
  • BS Degree in a relevant engineering discipline, Electrical or Electronic Systems Engineer preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of project-based engineering experience, or a minimum of three (3) years of project-based engineering experience without a BS degree in engineering.
  • Knowledge of control wiring and safety circuit design, with the ability to design these systems from scratch.
  • Knowledge of Fanuc robot programming, including IR vision training, and Motoman robot experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of PLC, HMI, and ethernet-based I/O devices, with the ability to write complex PLC programs from scratch.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present work to all levels of management.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work without close supervision.
  • Ability to work with customers to define and document requirements, address technical concerns, and provide project status.
  • Data-driven problem-solving methodology and the ability to effectively present work to all levels of management.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations to communicate status, problem resolution, recommendations of work/projects to appropriate internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work independently and help manage a project regarding the budget and schedule and project plan using the project management tools available within project excellence.
  • Troubleshooting ability to identify issues, assess alternatives and risks, and help implement solutions while keeping overall project on track.
