Job Summary

The Georgetown University is seeking a skilled Carpet and Floor Maintenance Specialist to join our team. This is a full-time position that requires the incumbent to report to work during inclement weather at the regularly scheduled time, regardless of whether the University is closed, opening late, or closing early.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general and specific cleaning and maintenance tasks to provide a clean, safe, and pleasant physical environment.
  • Clean up to 28,000-35,000 square feet of cleanable space per eight hour work day, using standard tools, equipment, materials, and supplies of the trade and observance of all safety rules, regulations, and precautions.
  • Perform snow and ice removal, clean up associated with water or fire damage, and special event support as assigned.
  • Work alone and with others, performing essential or non-essential tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Represent the department with the University community and its visitors and is expected to behave in a professional manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or high school equivalency.
  • 1 year of custodial work experience.
  • A valid and current driver's license from Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia.
  • Basic knowledge of English, including the ability to read, write, and speak English with understanding.
  • Ability to clearly relate custodial and maintenance problems to supervisor and/or the Work Management Center.

Additional Information

  • The candidate hired for Carpet and Floor Maintenance Specialist must complete an after-hire training program in building cleaning.
  • The work of the Carpet and Floor Maintenance Specialist constitutes a direct service of the department to ensure a comfortable, safe, and clean environment in which the University community can live, learn, and work.
