Position Overview

The Role: At Phalen Leadership Academies, our Literacy Support Specialists play a crucial role in enhancing student engagement and fostering academic development across our educational institutions. These specialists consistently evaluate student performance data to identify individual learning requirements. Utilizing structured lesson frameworks, they address these needs by instructing small groups of students throughout the day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that each student achieves a minimum of 10% improvement in English Language Arts proficiency annually on state assessments.
  • Conduct daily 30-minute sessions of targeted instruction with assigned students.
  • Monitor and document student progress, ensuring that all students meet or surpass expected growth benchmarks.
  • Implement effective teaching strategies and utilize evidence-based intervention materials tailored to the needs of identified students.
  • Employ data-informed instructional methods to bridge the achievement gap for targeted students.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, including the Teacher of Record, Special Education, and Instructional Assistants, to coordinate student groupings and instructional rotations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Preferred valid teaching certification.
  • Experience with structured intervention programs.
  • Demonstrated success in improving student academic performance.
  • Familiarity with providing individualized support to students.
