Vision Care Specialist

Position Overview:
The role involves assessing patients with a diverse range of visual issues, diagnosing ocular diseases, disorders, and deficiencies, and providing treatment as per licensing and accreditation standards. Referrals to other qualified Kaiser Permanente professionals may be necessary for further assessment and care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive examinations of patients experiencing various visual challenges using a complete array of optometric tools and methodologies.
- Identify visual diseases, disorders, and deficiencies, prescribing appropriate treatments in accordance with state regulations.
- Fit and prescribe contact lenses.
- Evaluate the visual needs of patients with partial sight.
- Recommend low-vision aids, including telescopic and microscopic lenses, magnifiers, and other optical devices for low-vision patients.
- Utilize diagnostic pharmaceutical agents to identify and diagnose ocular conditions, as permitted by state law.
- Employ examination techniques to uncover ocular indicators of systemic illnesses and medication effects.
- Refer patients to relevant Kaiser Permanente specialists for additional evaluation and treatment as required.
- Engage in departmental and educational meetings, including peer review sessions within the medical facility.
- Collaborate regularly with internal medicine, pediatrics, and ophthalmology regarding patient care matters.
- Assist in developing eye care educational programs for medical center personnel and patient seminars.
- In collaboration with an ophthalmologist, evaluate and manage specified anterior segment disorders under physician orders.
Position Details:
This is a full-time float position between various locations with 50% travel required, including one Saturday per month.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience: N/A
Education: Graduation from an accredited Optometry program.
Licenses and Certifications: Optometrist License (Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia), Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association, and National Provider Identifier upon hire.

Minimum of two years of experience in a collaborative healthcare setting or successful completion of an accredited residency program in Optometry.
