Job Title: Senior Mechanic - Boiler Operations and Maintenance

**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanic to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing complex inspections, service, repairs, and maintenance of our Horse Power boilers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform skilled inspections, service, repairs, and maintenance of Horse Power boilers to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Provide dig safe activities to main utility lines to prevent unsafe excavation and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Manage boiler and utility renovation projects, including liaison with contractors, engineers, and project teams.
  • Obtain permits from State and local jurisdictions to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Assist with inspections and work with insurance representatives to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Provide heating and plumbing system repairs and maintenance to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Supervise other physical plant employees and contractors to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Assist with maintaining boiler system chemical treatment program to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Provide emergency service on high pressure steam systems to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Promote workplace safety and ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Operate a University vehicle to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.

Requirements:

  • Vermont Master Plumber's License to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • 5 years of experience in plumbing/heating system maintenance/repair and commercial boilers to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in skilled trades to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Vermont Type S A-1 Electrical License to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Vermont Natural Gas Certification to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Vermont Fuel Oil Burning Installer (NORA Silver) certification to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Backflow Prevention Certification or ability to obtain to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Experience with computers and mobile technology to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Valid driver's license to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Comfortable in confined spaces and at heights to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.

Pay Range: $34 to $37 per hour

Special Conditions:

  • Bargaining Unit Position to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Probationary period may be required to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Occasional evening and/or weekends required to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • 40-hour work week to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Background Check and Physical Examination required to ensure compliance with regulations.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Union Position: Yes, UE ($18 minimum hourly rate)
