Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Steel Dynamics. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for providing engineering support and direction to our departmental Maintenance and Operations teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide engineering support and direction to departmental Maintenance and Operations teams.
  • Lead area mechanical engineering and provide support for achieving plant's safety, customer, quality, sustainability, and profit objectives.
  • Collaborate with operations team members, troubleshoot equipment and process problems, provide engineered solutions to the problems.
  • Support operations during equipment breakdowns.
  • Develop repair and rebuild maintenance procedures.
  • Manage equipment rebuilds working with in-house and contracted maintenance resources.
  • Develop capital improvement projects, associated timelines, and oversee project executions.
  • Become the technical equipment expert for the department and provide ongoing technical leadership for the equipment/processes.
  • Lead process improvement efforts in the coil finishing manufacturing and process areas, specifically focusing on slitters, tension level lines, continuous thermal lines, and continuous coating/chemical lines.
  • Foster and maintain excellent working relationships with internal customers, including corporate technical resources, leadership teams, production, quality, and maintenance personnel.
  • Collaborate effectively with external suppliers to ensure process improvement needs are understood and met.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, preferred ten or more years' experience.
  • Strong background in mechanical engineering, specifically with expertise in web handling and slitting processes.
  • Knowledgeable about tension control, trimming, slitting, winding, wrinkling, web breaks, surface treatment, coatings and steering/guiding.
