Role Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Peer Support Specialist who possesses lived experience in behavioral health services. This role is ideal for individuals who may not hold a formal degree in behavioral health but have valuable personal insights and experiences to share. The successful candidate will have navigated the behavioral health system and is eager to assist others on their recovery journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage with clients in community settings as referred, aiding them in identifying suitable next steps related to their housing needs and developing personalized housing treatment plans.
- Collaborate with a wide network of community resources, including shelters and assessment services, and actively participate in clinical team meetings to ensure coordinated care.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation in client records, including electronic systems.
- Provide peer support by helping clients formulate and execute self-directed recovery plans, sharing personal experiences, and teaching self-management techniques.
- Demonstrate proficiency in various specialized areas, including risk assessment, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care.
- Exhibit the ability to remain composed in crisis situations, work both independently and collaboratively, and relate empathetically to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Uphold professional conduct in alignment with ethical standards and agency policies.
- Foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including team members and community partners.
- Possess a valid driver's license and maintain appropriate insurance if driving is required for agency business.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required; a Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
- Experience working with severely mentally ill adults is essential.
- Peer Support Certification is mandatory.
- Must have personal experience with the community behavioral health system.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Fingerprint clearance card or eligibility to obtain one is required.
- Bi-lingual (Spanish) skills are a plus.
