Job Summary

The Assistant Carpentry Supervisor will oversee the supervision of part of 1st and 2nd shift operations and maintenance functions. This role will assist in directing and leading union staff of the Carpentry, Paint, and cleaning service contractors in the upkeep and maintenance of all buildings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct union staff in the upkeep and maintenance of all buildings
  • Assist in managing shift operations, including assigning, directing, coordinating, and checking the work of all trades staff
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely completion and quality work with minimal disruption to the Lab mission
  • Lead the shop in the absence of the Supervisor Carpentry and be an integral part of any Lab emergency response where buildings are affected
  • Handle and respond to trouble calls and Building Management System alarms
  • Generate work orders within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (SAP)
  • Collaborate with shop supervision on all 2nd shift FSIU employee performance evaluations
  • Evaluate and make decisions in high-stress situations during major utility outages, flooding, or other problems that could adversely affect the on-going research
Requirements
  • Minimum of five (5) years of Carpentry or related supervisory experience in a Facilities Management or Construction environment
  • Thorough knowledge of the Carpentry trade, including tools, equipment, and materials
  • Ability to interpret construction documents, order materials and equipment, and enforce specification requirements
  • Strong communications, interpersonal, and analytical skills, including the ability to make sound decisions based on available information
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain a state asbestos certification and oversee third-party consultants as an Asbestos Project Monitor
  • Knowledge of asbestos abatement, industrial hygiene, the construction industry, building systems, and building hazardous material surveys
  • Construction Supervisor's license or any contractor licenses
  • Experience with timekeeping and a work order management system
