Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Accounting Professional with strong analytical abilities and meticulous attention to detail to join our team as a Staff Accountant. This role involves supporting both internal and external stakeholders, executing daily accounting tasks, and assisting with the financial closing processes at month-end and year-end. Key responsibilities include financial reporting, transaction recording, account reconciliations, and managing fixed assets and investments, all while ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and organizational policies.

The ideal candidate should be prepared to commute to our headquarters up to two days a week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Record daily cash receipts for incoming payments, including checks, ACH, and wire transfers; manage credit card transactions; and maintain accounts receivable and bank deposit records.
  • Review and post daily transaction batches in the Association Management System, ensuring accurate accounting period recording and integration with the financial system.
  • Handle customer billing, payment collections, and resolve any discrepancies that may arise.
  • Generate monthly customer e-Statements through the Association Management System.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries to appropriately defer or recognize expenses and revenues for balance sheet accounts, including depreciation and investment gains/losses.
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax filings, ensuring maintenance of the organization's sales and use tax exemption certifications.
  • Reconcile balance sheet, fixed asset, and investment accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies as necessary, and updating reconciliation files for year-end audit preparation.
  • Prepare audit schedules in compliance with GAAP.
  • Assist in developing and refining accounting procedures by analyzing current practices and suggesting improvements.
  • Provide comprehensive support and address finance-related inquiries from staff and external clients.
  • Support team members during peak periods, including assistance with accounts payable and other accounts receivable tasks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant bookkeeping or accounting experience.

This position is based out of ICMA's headquarters. Currently, all staff are working remotely, and the selected individual must be available during core business hours.
