Position Summary:

The Building People, LLC is seeking a dedicated Grounds Supervisor to oversee a comprehensive facility maintenance program tailored for a federal agency. This role involves managing the daily operations of the grounds maintenance team under the guidance of the Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and organize staff engaged in the upkeep of various landscapes, including parks and fields, performing tasks such as mowing, weeding, and other manual labor activities.
  • Formulate and enforce operational protocols and safety measures for the work environment.
  • Supervise all grounds-related activities.
  • Provide training, oversight, and performance evaluations for team members.
  • Develop plans and budget estimates for landscape maintenance and enhancements.
  • Prepare athletic fields for events, including tasks like lining and raking.
  • Implement turf installation, seeding, and top dressing for fields and parks.
  • Educate and guide staff on the safe application and handling of pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Assist the public in utilizing facilities effectively.
  • Participate in both internal and external meetings.
  • Request necessary materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Possess a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in managing commercial and institutional groundskeeping operations similar to the FLETC Complex.
  • Demonstrate the ability to create clear, concise, and detailed reports.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned, ensuring physical capability to perform tasks, including lifting equipment up to 50 pounds and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Maintain mobility across the campus to perform groundskeeping duties throughout the shift.
  • Exhibit the ability to climb, bend, reach, and stoop as necessary for grounds maintenance tasks. Availability for weekends, overtime, and emergency call-backs may be required.

Position Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of recent experience in managing commercial or industrial grounds maintenance comparable to the FLETC Charleston.
  • Experience in scheduling and supervising a grounds maintenance workforce, along with long-term planning to ensure plant health and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated expertise in establishing the organizational structure necessary for effective grounds maintenance.
  • Professional knowledge of turf management, plant care, soil health, tree maintenance, and landscape issues.
  • Proficiency in both oral and written communication in English.
  • Ability to operate a computer terminal effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage with the public.

Educational Qualifications:

  • A minimum of an Associate's Degree in Horticulture Technology, Landscape Architecture, Floriculture, or Arboriculture is required.
