Job Title: Assistant Professor of Design

Ferris State University is seeking a highly qualified Assistant Professor of Design to join our faculty team. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching multiple subject areas within the design curriculum, as well as courses serving non-design majors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach in multiple subject areas, including graphic design, brand identity design, and user experience.
  • Manage multiple projects and situations, including curriculum development and assessment.
  • Integrate current technology into the learning environment, ensuring students are equipped with the skills needed to succeed in the design industry.
  • Work in support of teaching and professional services, contributing to the further development of a strong design curriculum.
  • Develop new course content and/or maintain and manage existing courses, ensuring they meet the needs of our students and the design industry.
Requirements:
  • BFA/BS in Design related discipline, with a pursuit of a master's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in communication design, art direction, and technology tools that meet the demands of the current professional design practice.
  • Demonstrated interest in creating and evaluating design curriculum, as well as involvement in professional organizations and community service.
  • Technical proficiency in tools and software, with a strong understanding of design principles and practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MFA, MBA, MA or MS in a design related discipline.
  • Experience teaching in a higher education setting, with a strong understanding of curriculum development and assessment.
  • Strong qualities of professionalism and collegiality, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
