About the Role

Nationwide Children's Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Recreational Therapist to join our Behavioral Health team. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing therapeutic recreational services to patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and screen patients to determine therapeutic recreational needs, identify strengths and deficits, establish long and short-term goals, and develop an individualized treatment plan incorporating patient and family needs.
  • Administer treatment intervention to meet each patient's specific needs and achieve their goals; observe progress or changes in patient's condition and modify treatment plan accordingly.
  • Simplify the patient's adjustment into the hospital. Facilitate improvements in the patient's self-perception of body image and function.
  • Document patients' evaluation results, objective status, progress towards goals, treatment plan, and recommendations. Utilize appropriate computerized or standardized documentation methods, as applicable to caseload.
  • Educate patient and family on each child's treatment goals and therapy plan; instruct patients and parents on therapeutic activities to follow while in hospital or at home; document instruction; and evaluate ongoing compliance and understanding.
  • Recommend and secure patient referrals to community agencies to ensure continuity of care.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited school.
  • Certification as a Therapeutic Specialist through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
  • One year experience as a CTRS preferred or clinical affiliation in pediatrics.
Working Conditions

This role requires occasional climbing of stairs/ladders, driving, lifting/carrying up to 60 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 60 lbs, exposure to fumes/gases/vapors, biohazard waste, working outdoors, and working in hot/cold temperatures. Frequent bending/twisting, squatting/kneeling, use of computer skills, lifting/carrying up to 40 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 40 lbs, exposure to blood and/or bodily fluids, communicable diseases and/or pathogens, and chemicals and/or medications are also required. Continuous standing, walking, sitting, flexing/extending of neck, reaching above shoulder, hand usage, and repetitive hand/arm usage are necessary for this role.
