Key Responsibilities:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Poultry Care Specialist is responsible for the well-being of a significant number of birds and the maintenance of equipment within the barn environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Foster a positive work environment through effective communication and collaboration with customers, clients, colleagues, and management.
  • Ensure consistent attendance by adhering to scheduled workdays as outlined in production planning.
  • Administer vaccinations and apply disinfectants in layer houses as required.
  • Adjust lighting levels by modifying ropes in accordance with the established lighting schedule.
  • Monitor and manage feed, ventilation, lighting, and water to meet the needs of the birds consistently.
  • Transport equipment as necessary within the facility.
  • Conduct daily mortality checks and maintain accurate records of mortality, feed intake, and water consumption.
  • Perform repairs on non-manure and non-electrical equipment, including buildings and fences, while assisting with maintenance tasks as directed.
  • Safely capture and return loose birds to their cages, adhering to bird density guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness by removing animal waste and droppings from the barn floor.
  • Handle and organize crated egg samples from designated sampling areas.
  • Comply with all bio-security protocols and bird health procedures.
  • Follow safe work practices, uphold Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and maintain sanitary conditions to ensure product quality. Report any issues that may compromise food safety or personnel safety to management.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.
