Job Title: Library Clerk

Irving Independent School District is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Library Clerk to join our team. As a key member of our library staff, you will play a vital role in maintaining a well-organized and smoothly functioning library environment.

Job Summary:

The Library Clerk will assist the librarian with various tasks, including supervising the library circulation system, managing delivery of materials, and shelving incoming books and materials. You will also supervise students, assist with individual and small group activities, and provide instruction on using library resources.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise the operation of the library circulation system and manage delivery of materials between campus and Instructional Center
  • Shelve incoming books, materials, and equipment to keep materials available to users
  • Supervise students and assist librarian and teacher to maintain student behavior and maintain an orderly atmosphere
  • Provide individual instruction and assistance in using library resources, including computers, audiovisual equipment, and databases
  • Assist with individual and small group activities under the direction of the librarian
  • Manage daily procedures in relation to user's requests for interlibrary loan of materials between campuses
  • Receive and process books, materials, and equipment and reconcile with packing slips and invoices
  • Maintain records of lost materials and prepare parent/teacher notification as needed
  • Process lost book payments and reimbursements according to district guidelines
  • Distribute and dispatch materials from/to other library resources, including Instruction Center, other district libraries, public library, etc.
  • Assist in the regular inventory and weeding of the library materials
  • Maintain and repair books, magazines, materials, and equipment
  • Assist librarian in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports
  • Assist with the training of volunteers, including student, parent, and other community members
  • Assist with library events such as book fairs, author visits, award ceremonies, etc.
  • Answer basic technology-related questions, especially those that are used in the library
Requirements:
  • Minimum Education/Certification: Educational Secretary I Paraprofessional Certificate and High School Diploma or GED
  • Special Knowledge/Skills: Proficient skills in basic mathematics or accounting, effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, ability to operate computer using a variety of basic applications, ability to effectively use district programs with reasonable assistance, and bilingual English/Spanish speaker preferred
  • Minimum Experience: One (1) year clerical/secretarial experience or other equivalent experience or background and experience working with children/students or parents
Working Conditions:

The Library Clerk will work in a fast-paced library environment, requiring the ability to maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. The position also requires the ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making.
