Job Title: Library Clerk

Job Summary:

The Irving Independent School District is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Library Clerk to assist the librarian with the effective management of the library. The successful candidate will provide access to a well-organized and smoothly functioning library environment, ensuring that teachers, students, and community members can take full advantage of the available resources.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Library Operations: Supervise the operation of the library circulation system, manage delivery of materials between campus and Instructional Center, and shelve incoming books, materials, and equipment.
  • Student Supervision: Supervise students and assist the librarian and teacher to maintain student behavior and maintain an orderly atmosphere.
  • Library Services: Provide individual instruction and assistance in using library resources, including computers, audiovisual equipment, and databases.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain records of lost materials, process lost book payments and reimbursements, and reconcile with packing slips and invoices.
  • Inventory and Maintenance: Assist in the regular inventory and weeding of library materials, maintain and repair books, magazines, materials, and equipment, and process for repair by district maintenance staff as needed.
  • Administrative Support: Assist the librarian in keeping administrative records, preparing required reports, and participating in staff development, faculty meetings, and special duties as required.
Requirements:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED and Educational Secretary I Paraprofessional Certificate.
  • Experience: One (1) year clerical/secretarial experience or other equivalent experience or background, and experience working with children/students or parents.
  • Skills: Proficient skills in basic mathematics or accounting, effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, ability to operate computer using a variety of basic applications, and ability to effectively use district programs with reasonable assistance.
Working Conditions:

The Library Clerk will work in a fast-paced library environment, requiring the ability to maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. The successful candidate will also be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making, and will be required to perform all duties in a safe and responsible manner.
