Medical Technologist Per Diem Job Description

Mount Sinai Medical Center of Florida is seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team in a per diem capacity. As a Medical Technologist, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality laboratory services to our patients.

Responsibilities:
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to ensure seamless shift transitions and patient care.
  • Perform and document quality control procedures to ensure accurate test results.
  • Organize work to maximize productivity and efficiency, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Determine specimen acceptability and priority, taking action to ensure timely testing and results.
  • Maintain a minimum inventory of reagents and supplies to ensure adequate patient care and sufficient stock for the next shift.
  • Recognize and address equipment failures to minimize delays in patient testing.
  • Document critical values and alert levels according to department policy.
  • Adhere to laboratory policies and procedures regarding standard precautions, PPE, biohazardous waste disposal, and routine waste and sharps.
  • Consult with supervisors, managers, or charge techs to determine the best course of action in unusual situations.
  • Provide assistance to colleagues and work alternative shifts or hours as needed or requested.
  • Teach and train staff as assigned, performing charge tech duties in the absence of the manager.
  • Address instrument flags prior to releasing patient results, monitoring delta checks and taking action accordingly.
  • Review work lists throughout the shift and address pending items.
  • Clean and decontaminate workstations, disposing of specimens, reagents, and confidential information as necessary.
  • Perform manual differentials in blood and body fluids, identify abnormal cells, and demonstrate knowledge of basic quality control troubleshooting.
  • Rotate through each section of the Core Laboratory, demonstrating knowledge of basic maintenance and instrument troubleshooting.
  • Understand CAP regulations for each area of licensure.
Qualifications:
  • Licensed by the State of Florida (or eligible) in Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, and Immunology - national certification preferred.
  • Commensurate with licensure requirements.
  • Completion of a training program in medical technology.
