Role Summary:
This role is integral to the YMCA's mission of fostering community strength through various programs. The Aquatic Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring safe swimming conditions in the pool and surrounding areas, while cultivating a welcoming environment that prioritizes member safety and engagement in line with YMCA standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain vigilant observation of the pool area to ensure safety.
  • Address member inquiries and guide them to appropriate program areas.
  • Assist with swim instruction and provide supervision as needed.
  • Understand and execute emergency procedures promptly, documenting incidents as required.
  • Consistently apply safety protocols and maintain accurate records in compliance with YMCA and health regulations.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of the pool and its surroundings for safety hazards.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and ensure availability of necessary supplies.
  • Conduct water quality tests when not actively guarding and respond accordingly.
  • Participate in all staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Foster positive relationships with members and colleagues.
  • Wear the designated uniform, including Lifeguard Shirt and appropriate gear.
  • Exhibit emotional resilience and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse individuals.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum age requirement of 15 years.
  2. Current certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen.
  3. Valid YMCA or ARC Lifeguard certification or equivalent.
  4. Ability to maintain physical and mental readiness as per certification standards.
  5. Demonstrated lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA expectations.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
  • Physical demands include the ability to perform all necessary lifeguard skills.
  • Ability to hear distress signals and noises in the aquatic environment.
  • Maintain alertness without lapses in focus.
  • Observe all areas of responsibility effectively.
