About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Architectural Design Professional to join our team at Kaas Wilson Architects. As a Senior Building Designer, you will play a key role in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to plan, design, and facilitate the execution of new building designs, building expansions, or renovations according to clients' needs, desires, and financial resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design Development: Engage in preparing drawings and specification documents for the Conceptual Design Phase, Schematic Design Phase, and/or the Detailed Design Phase of a project, independently applying advanced architectural concepts and designs.
  • Project Collaboration: Collaborate with consultants and clients to facilitate the building process to meet clients' specifications.
  • Technical Design: Own specific technical design aspects of an assigned major project, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best meet the client's needs.
  • Plan Development: Create detailed plans integrating engineering, electrical, and HVAC considerations; present plans to clients for review and approval.
  • Project Coordination: Develop plans and schedules; collaborate on the planning, design, and coordination of large or complex projects.
  • Research and Coordination: Assist in research and coordination of materials and products for project specifications.
  • Complex Assignments: Carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
  • Team Collaboration: Work in tandem with highly collaborative multi-discipline teams.
  • Project Meetings: Attend meetings with owner and contractor periodically throughout the project as required by the Project Manager; write meeting minutes.
  • Project Communication: Maintain ongoing communication to understand any project changes, design issues, or time/budget constraints that may impact the initial assignment; write project scope.
  • Quality Assurance: Assure overall quality, completeness, and accuracy of Construction Documents.
Requirements
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Technical Proficiency: Extremely proficient with Revit and project-supportive software.
  • Preferred Experience: Preferred experience in Enscape and/or Lumion.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, and consultation skills.
  • Client Communication: Ability to translate client ideas into visual and/or tangible references such as drawings or models.
  • Organization and Time Management: Strong organization, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with Building Construction: Familiarity with building construction processes.
  • Collaboration: Ability to collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders.
Education and Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Architecture required, Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience: At least five years of relevant experience.
  • Licensure: Active board licensure is preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged Sitting or Standing: Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Lifting: Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
