About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Associate Underwriter to join our team at Symetra. As an Associate Underwriter, you will play a critical role in underwriting new business accounts for Life, AD&D, Short Term Disability (STD), Family Medical Leave (FML), and Long Term Disability (LTD) insurance products.

Key Responsibilities
  • New Business Pricing: Review Request for Proposal (RFP) submissions, verify census data and plan information, and develop and analyze manual ratings to recommend new business rate recommendations.
  • Renewal Pricing: Underwrite large market inforce customer accounts, including Life coverage for accounts over 500 lives and Supplemental Health for accounts up to 5,000 eligible lives.
  • Account Management: Process sold accounts and renewals, manage a book of business, and develop and maintain positive relationships with Symetra sales, field, and home office service and actuarial teams.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Participate in projects and training initiatives, maintain accurate and up-to-date reporting of assigned presales and renewals, and analyze data to inform business decisions.

As a valued member of our team, you will enjoy a competitive salary range of $46,800 - $78,000, eligibility for an annual bonus program, and a comprehensive benefits package, including flexible full-time or hybrid telecommuting arrangements, a 401(k) plan with immediate vesting and company matching, paid time away, and a company matching program for charitable donations.

Requirements
  • Strong Analytical and Technical Skills: Ability to analyze complex data, develop and implement effective solutions, and communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Effective Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including sales teams, customers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Business Acumen: Understanding of the insurance industry, including product offerings, pricing, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Education and Experience: 4-year college degree or equivalent business experience, with a strong background in insurance, finance, or a related field.
