Fiber Engineer Job Description

Selectek is seeking a skilled Fiber Engineer to join their team in designing and planning fiber-to-the-home route plans for a partnering company serving markets in the northeastern US.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently plan routes, lodging, and additional accommodations to audit multiple sites and produce deliverables by or before deadlines while staying within budget.
  • Collect and document information from the field as necessary to support engineering and/or the completion of drafting procedures for small cell nodes, FTTx projects, enterprise fiber deployments.
  • Document the best route and provide guidance to fiber design engineer for the path.
  • Review information and documentation prior to transmission to ensure thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Utilize proper tools and programs (Ike, Emlid) while in the field to transmit deliverables to the appropriate office/client in a timely manner.
  • Work with Bas approvals for hand hole and other design.
  • Determine standards for Segments, Fiber Counts and Splitter locations.
  • Design Fiber to the Home, backhaul/transport fiber routes, MDU, distribution/feeder design using provided design software and methods.
  • Work with ISP requirements and provide final document to A&E and construction vendors.
  • Functionally understand easements, right-of-ways, aerial plant, and buried plant to aid in the design process.
  • The ability to read and understand maps, plats, as-builts, construction drawings and utility records is highly desirable.
  • Perform any/all duties related to fiber-optic (or copper/coax) network designs that may be required for project(s).

Required Job Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • IKE or Katapult experience, Mapping experience using Google Earth/Maps.
  • At least 2 years of experience auditing or performing related services on telecommunication sites.
  • Proficient in the use of FTTx design programs, including Arc-GIS, 3GIS, Fond, Vetro, etc.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, flexible start/end times. Some travel to sites will be required, all within the northeast.
