About the Role

Smithfield Foods is seeking a highly skilled NSIS Technologist to join our Food Safety and Quality Assurance team. As an NSIS Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and safety of our products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine sanitation checks to ensure compliance with HACCP and USDA regulations.
  • Identify and control potential food safety hazards occurring from pathological conditions in live hogs, heads, carcasses, and viscera.
  • Monitor and communicate with helpers to ensure correct tagging and marking of carcasses and swine pathology.
  • Clearly and effectively communicate with USDA officials and Plant Management on technical issues and complete/verify necessary inspection documentation.
  • Work with other departments to implement procedure changes to remedy non-compliance issues.
  • Utilize technical knowledge to prevent and identify the root cause of process or product failures.
  • Continuously improve product quality through attention to process expectations.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), required.
  • 2+ years' experience in a related field, preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Ability to complete required applicable forms in English.
  • Ability to follow written/verbal directions and apply previously determined corrective action when deviations are identified.
  • Knowledge and understanding of quality assurance principles, food science, and meat processing.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Work Environment

The work environment will include wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.

Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision includes close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
