NSIS Technologist

Smithfield Foods is seeking a highly skilled NSIS Technologist to join our team. As a key member of our FS/QA team, you will be responsible for conducting routine sanitation checks to ensure compliance with HACCP and USDA regulations.

• Conduct routine sanitation checks to ensure compliance with HACCP and USDA regulations
• Identify and control potential food safety hazards occurring from pathological conditions in live hogs, heads, carcasses, and viscera
• Monitor and communicate with helpers to ensure correct tagging and marking of carcasses and swine pathology
• Clearly and effectively communicate with USDA officials and Plant Management on technical issues and complete/verify necessary inspection documentation
• Work with other departments to implement procedure changes to remedy non-compliance issues

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
• 2+ years' experience in a related field, such as harvest processing, USDA inspection, or FSQA
• Bilingual preferred
• Ability to read and write in English
• Ability to follow written/verbal directions and apply corrective action when deviations are identified
• Knowledge and understanding of quality assurance principles, food science, and meat processing

The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, perform repetitive tasks, and stand for prolonged periods.
