Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Principal Investigator for Cultural Resources to join our Planning, Permitting, and Licensing Practice (PPL) in Portland, Oregon or Milwaukie, Oregon. This individual will work closely with other environmental and cultural resources staff to further develop TRC's cultural resource program on the west coast.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage agency, client, and tribal relationships, marketing, and proposal development.
  • Assist and advise other cultural resources staff.
  • Direct and manage large and complex cultural resources projects, including fieldwork and report preparation.
  • Meet the requirements for a qualified archaeologist in the state of Oregon as defined in ORS 390.235.
  • Develop and implement budgets, research designs, work plans, schedules, analyses, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations, environmental review processes, and compliance requirements (e.g., Section 106).
  • Meet the Secretary of Interior's Professional Qualifications for Archaeology, History, Architectural History, or Historic Architecture.
  • Previous project experience working on federal and state lands.
  • Regional experience that allows for immediate permitting with local offices of federal agencies and obtaining other permits as needed.
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, editing, peer-reviewing, and public speaking.
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills.
  • Ability to accomplish tasks in a timely manner, with a track record of meeting deadlines and budgets and producing high-quality reports.
  • A commitment to safety.
  • Familiarity with digital data recordation and management.
Qualifications
  • 10 or more years of progressive experience in the archaeology and/or architectural history of Oregon and the surrounding region.
  • Graduate degree (M.A. or Ph.D.) from a United States accredited university in anthropology, archaeology, architectural history, or historic preservation.
  • Meets the requirements for a qualified archaeologist in the state of Oregon as defined in ORS 390.235.
  • Meet the Secretary of Interior's Professional Qualifications for Archaeology, History, Architectural History, or Historic Architecture.
  • Previous project experience working on federal and state lands.
  • Regional experience that allows for immediate permitting with local offices of federal agencies and obtaining other permits as needed.
  • Demonstrated marketing success and client retention.
  • Previous experience in following states: OR, AK, CA, NV, WA, ID.
  • Previous experience working with utility clients.
  • Technical expertise in lithic analysis, ceramic analysis, or underwater archaeology.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Successful completion of a background check and drug screen.
  • Abide by Company policies and procedures.
