Landscape Design Coordinator Position

We are seeking a creative and self-motivated Landscape Design Coordinator to join our team at HDR. As a key member of our urban design and planning team, you will play a vital role in supporting landscape and urban design projects, collaborating with other team members, and developing design thinking and concepts.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in landscape architecture or a related field, with proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and other design software. You will be responsible for creating concept and detailed drawings, communicating design and planning concepts, and working under the direction of a registered Landscape Architect.

  • Support landscape and urban design projects simultaneously and interact and coordinate effectively with other team members
  • Develop and advance design thinking and concepts in project work and studio culture
  • Leverage design and graphic talent, including computer and hand graphic skills, on a variety of projects for private and public clients
  • Create concept and detailed drawings using 2D and 3D digital illustration and computational design tools, free hand drawing, and rendering
  • Clearly communicate design and planning concepts in writing and in spoken presentations
  • Collaborate with architects, planners, engineers, and other disciplines on community-scaled design projects
  • Embark upon or continue the path toward professional licensure
  • Be an active participant in professional organizations
  • Work under the direction of registered Landscape Architect to assist in development of site design projects, from concept design to construction documentation
  • Understand that assignments have specified objectives and require investigation of many variables, including site analysis, building operation, vehicular and pedestrian traffic, site grading and storm drainage
  • Conduct site visits and analyses, and assist the project Landscape Architect with illustration of design using combination of hand-drawn and computer-rendered graphics
  • Provide AutoCAD production support during concept and schematic design, design development, and construction document phases
  • Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Minimum 3 years of professional work experience in the field of landscape architecture
  • Internships or prior work experience as landscape designer/urban designer
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, advanced 3D modeling, computational design and rendering with programs such as Grasshopper, Lumion, Enscape, and VRay
  • Excellent communication, time management, graphic and organizational skills
  • Hand sketching and drawing skills
  • Understanding of technical aspects of landscape architecture and associated terminology including construction materials and processes, grading and drainage, plant materials and planting design
  • Knowledge of the range of typical design activities, including site analysis, master planning, site planning, conceptual development, and construction documentation preparation and project implementation
  • Previous design office experience
  • Field experience

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or Civil Engineering
  • AutoCAD, Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel experience
  • Photoshop a plus
  • Ability to prepare site plans and understand the principles of grading and drainage
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
