Position Summary
The Patient Care Assistant is responsible for delivering both direct and indirect care to residents under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This role involves assisting residents with daily living activities, ensuring personal hygiene, comfort, and maintaining a safe and tidy environment for a designated group of residents. The ideal candidate will interact with all stakeholders (co-workers, patients, families, physicians, vendors, etc.) with professionalism and a commitment to exceptional customer service, embodying a spirit of teamwork and respect for the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitates the admission process for new residents.
- Assists residents during admission, transfer, and discharge procedures.
- Provides morning care, which may include bathing, oral hygiene, grooming, dressing, and general upkeep of the living space.
- Delivers evening care including washing hands and faces, oral hygiene, and ensuring residents are comfortable for the night.
- Supports RN in executing treatment plans.
- Offers general aide support such as repositioning residents, assisting with mobility, and utilizing special equipment as needed.
- Records vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, and blood pressure.
- Follows facility policies and procedures diligently.
- Engages residents in social activities to promote interaction.
- Ensures proper positioning of residents to prevent discomfort and injury.
- Monitors skin condition and reports any concerns to nursing staff.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of resident clothing and personal items.
- Checks and organizes linen supplies, ensuring availability and cleanliness.
- Treats residents and their families with dignity and respect.
- Assists residents to appointments as directed.
- Prepares residents for meals and assists with dining as necessary.
- Distributes refreshments and ensures residents have access to hydration.
- Provides care for residents in isolation as required.
- Responds promptly to residents' needs and anticipates requirements.
- Supports residents in managing their personal belongings.
- Transports residents to various departments as needed.
- Reports any changes in residents' conditions or behaviors to appropriate staff.
- Participates in interdisciplinary care meetings.
- Demonstrates the ability to follow both oral and written instructions and collaborates effectively with team members.
- Shows willingness to learn and develop skills in basic nursing procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality of resident information while fostering positive relationships.
- Engages in ongoing education to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Maintains personal health to ensure consistent attendance at work.
- Exhibits a genuine interest in caring for geriatric and disabled individuals.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the relevant state.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification required within a specified timeframe of employment.
