SECURITY ASSISTANT (PART-TIME)
CITY COLLEGES OF CHICAGO

City Colleges of Chicago is seeking a dedicated Security Assistant. Under general supervision and reporting to the Director or Assistant Director of Security, this role involves patrolling and monitoring various facilities to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and the public.

This is an unarmed position that supports Security Officers and the operations of the Office of Security Services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a visible presence at designated locations, overseeing access and entry to buildings to safeguard students, employees, and visitors.
  • Conduct foot and vehicle patrols to provide security and observe for any unusual or suspicious activities, while monitoring campus buildings and surrounding areas to prevent crime, theft, and vandalism.
  • Alert supervisors and on-duty Security Officers of any disturbances or irregularities. Contact emergency services such as police, fire, or medical personnel as necessary.
  • Issue student identification cards, verifying student information and utilizing an ID Badging system to produce identification.
  • Provide security escort services as required, ensuring safe passage to and from buildings and parking areas. Respond to service calls and alarms, taking appropriate actions.
  • Inform and caution violators regarding any policy infringements as necessary.
  • Offer assistance to students, faculty, and the public by providing information such as directions, office locations, and general campus details.
  • Operate two-way radio equipment to maintain communication with supervisors and fellow security personnel.
  • Document activities during assigned shifts by updating operations and incident logs.
  • Assist Security Officers in executing security and safety responsibilities as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's Degree or higher in criminal justice from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • A Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC) from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) is preferred.
  • Proficiency in PC desktop applications and the ability to operate a personal computer.
  • A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and fingerprint screening is mandatory.
