  • POSITION OVERVIEW
    • The Physical Therapist is responsible for the assessment, planning, execution, and documentation of patient care services. This role includes overseeing Assistants, Attendants, and students during treatment delivery. Therapists will primarily focus on either an inpatient hospital environment or an outpatient clinic setting.
    • Inpatient Care Focus: The Inpatient Therapist will work in various inpatient settings, including acute care orthopedics, neuro/ICU/general care, and inpatient rehabilitation. There are opportunities for specialization in areas such as stroke recovery, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, post-operative orthopedic care, wound management, and lymphedema. Additional training and experience can be gained in outpatient clinics or home care settings if desired. Weekend and holiday shifts may be required.
    • Outpatient Care Focus: The Outpatient Therapist will be assigned to one or more outpatient clinics, serving diverse patient populations. There is potential to develop specialized skills in areas like vestibular rehabilitation, temporomandibular disorders, pelvic health, women's health, lymphedema, and sports medicine. Additional training and experience can also be pursued in inpatient or home care settings. Weekend and holiday shifts in the inpatient setting may be part of the responsibilities.
  • ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

    • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Valid Physical Therapy License in the State of Minnesota.

  • SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
    • Proficient in wound care, joint mobilization, and soft tissue mobilization; capable of relating well to individuals of various ages and backgrounds; skilled in muscle strengthening, endurance training, and understanding cardiovascular responses to exercise.
    • READING: Intermediate level: Ability to comprehend and interpret documents such as operating instructions and procedure manuals.
    • WRITING: Intermediate level: Ability to produce routine reports, correspondence, or procedural documentation.
    • SPEAKING: Intermediate level: Ability to effectively communicate information in individual or small group settings, or to larger audiences.
    • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Basic level: Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and apply them in practical situations.
    • REASONING ABILITY: Intermediate level: Ability to apply common sense to follow instructions and address problems with concrete variables.
    • AGE-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: Skilled in assessment and knowledgeable about growth and development, providing appropriate care based on the ages of patients served.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
    • PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
      • Inpatient Physical Therapists: Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
      • Outpatient Physical Therapists: (included in Inpatient Hospital Weekend Rotation) must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
      • Outpatient Physical Therapists: (not included in Inpatient Hospital Weekend Rotation) must be able to lift thirty (30) pounds.
      • Stand - Continuously for over 2 hours.
      • Walk - Continuously for over 2 hours.
      • Sit - Frequently for 1/3 to 2 hours.
      • Use hands for fine manipulation - Continuously for over 2 hours.
      • Reach with hands and arms - Continuously for over 2 hours.
      • Stoop, squat, kneel, or crouch - Continuously for over 2 hours.
      • Bend forward repetitively - Continuously for over 2 hours.
      • Talk or hear - Continuously for over 2 hours.
    • LIFTING REQUIREMENTS:
      • Up to 10 pounds - Continuously for over 2 hours.
      • Up to 25 pounds - Continuously for over 2 hours.
      • Up to 35 pounds - Frequently for 1/3 to 2 hours.
      • Up to 50 pounds - Occasionally for under 1 hour.
    • WORK ENVIRONMENT:
      • Typical Noise Level - Moderate noise (e.g., business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
