Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Athletic Trainer to join our team at the University of Virginia's College at Wise. As a member of the South Atlantic Conference, we sponsor 17 NCAA DII sports and are committed to providing top-notch care for our student-athletes.

As an Assistant Athletic Trainer, you will be responsible for providing assistance to the Associate and Head Athletic Trainers in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, referral, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses. You will also be responsible for supervising student staff and performing your work independently under limited supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide care for injuries incurred by all UVA Wise athletes, including assessing the nature of the injury, treating, and rehabilitating athletes to return them to full activity levels.
  • Conduct pre-season screening and conditioning to prevent injuries during competitions, and administer first aid and emergency techniques as needed.
  • Record and maintain detailed and appropriate medical records for treatment administered.
  • Help establish and implement educational programs for staff and sports medicine students, and interface with internal and external personnel for referral purposes and information exchange.
  • Provide guidance to graduate students, undergraduate interns, and practicum students in the Sports Medicine unit, and support the administrative management of the Sports Medicine unit.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree
Licensure: Eligibility for State Licensure, Athletic Trainer Certification from the Board of Certification (BOC), and CPR/AED certifications are required.

Preferred Qualification

Education: Master's degree
Experience: Experience as a professional athletic trainer

Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork aptitude, ability to prioritize multiple tasks, experience collaborating with coaches and serving student-athletes, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and attention to detail.
