Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Sr. Mechanical Designer to join our Kiewit Industrial Engineering team. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for planning, developing, and reviewing plant and piping designs, producing 3D models, drawings, and documentation, and supporting design estimates for projects.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize SmartPlant 3D (or other 3D design software) to create 3D equipment models and provide technical guidance to lower-level designers/drafters.
  • Design piping systems and generate isometric drawings for systems typical for food and beverage, bulk solids material handling, and other industrial facilities.

  • Perform early project design work related to facility layout and equipment general arrangement.
  • Develop, monitor, and check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
  • Navigate 3D models and check for interferences and constructability.
  • Support the construction team, including representing the design team on-site, answering RFI's, and providing creative design solutions.
  • Coordinate with other design partners, including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Associates degree in computer Aided Design and Drafting Technology, Engineering, or related field.
  • Hands-on experience with design software such as SmartPlant 3D (or similar plant design 3D software) and Microstation and AutoCAD required.
  • A minimum of 15 years' of 3D modeling/detailed design experience is required, with the ability to perform 3D piping design, equipment layout, develop construction drawings, and validate and coordinate with other disciplines for compliance with layouts.
  • Experience in Industrial, Power, Oil and gas, manufacturing, performing balance of plant type of design, (piping, pumps, valves, heating, cooling systems, is required).
  • Proficient in Navisworks software for design review and basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
