Position Summary:

The Emergency Care Technician plays a vital role in supporting the nursing staff within the Emergency, Medical Surgical, and Obstetrics departments. This position is dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care while advocating for the needs of patients through effective collaboration with the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in patient care activities as directed by nursing personnel, ensuring adherence to established standards.
  • Conduct clerical tasks including patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, along with managing phone communications.
  • Engage in educational initiatives such as mock codes to enhance team preparedness.
  • Contribute to the Decontamination Team efforts.
  • Facilitate patient transport for air transfers as necessary.
  • Monitor and document vital signs promptly and accurately.
  • Support patients with activities of daily living, including mobility assistance and personal hygiene.
  • Perform basic medical procedures such as catheterization, blood draws, and EKGs under the supervision of nursing staff.
  • Collaborate in the interdisciplinary care planning process for patients.
  • Assist registered nurses with bedside procedures and ensure all shift duties are completed efficiently.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of patient rooms and supply areas.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Stay informed on all communications and updates relevant to the role.
  • Report any abnormal findings or patient concerns to the supervising registered nurse.
  • Strive to uphold high standards of customer service in all interactions.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant program or an EMT Basic Program is required.
  • Preferred experience of at least six months in a healthcare environment.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic medical records.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new healthcare technologies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of infection control protocols and their impact on patient outcomes.
  • Familiarity with normal vital sign ranges for both pediatric and adult patients.
  • Awareness of patient rights and relevant healthcare regulations.
  • Knowledge of emergency medical procedures and interventions.
  • Ability to document patient information accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and clean healthcare environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage stress and maintain professionalism in a fast-paced setting.
