Campus Safety Specialist

Position Overview

The Safety Department at Curry College is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Campus Safety Specialist. This full-time position operates during the night shift, ensuring the safety and security of the college community. Under the guidance of the Director of Safety and direct oversight from supervisory personnel, the Campus Safety Specialist is responsible for providing security and dispatch services to protect students, staff, visitors, and college property.

Key Responsibilities

1. Security Operations:
  • The Campus Safety Specialist will implement a comprehensive range of authorized security protocols to maintain a safe environment for all college constituents.
  • Responsibilities include offering safety escort services for individuals on campus;
  • Conducting regular patrols of the campus, both on foot and by vehicle;
  • Enforcing campus parking regulations;
  • Executing identification checks and emergency lockdown procedures as necessary;
  • Responding promptly to health and safety incidents with appropriate actions;
  • Securing and monitoring alarm systems across campus facilities;
  • Conducting both vehicular and pedestrian patrols to deter unauthorized access and protect college assets;
  • Documenting incidents and interactions with students, faculty, and visitors as required;
  • Utilizing sound judgment to make independent decisions that prioritize the safety of the college community.
2. Dispatch Coordination:
  • The Campus Safety Specialist will manage communication center operations, including voice and visual command systems.
  • Maintaining accurate dispatch logs as needed;
  • Overseeing video surveillance and audio messaging systems to ensure effective emergency response;
  • Welcoming visitors and providing necessary information and directions;
  • Monitoring vehicle access to campus to ensure only authorized individuals are permitted entry;
  • Coordinating with local emergency services as required.
3. Collaborative Engagement:
  • The Campus Safety Specialist will regularly interact with various departments, including Residence Life and local emergency agencies.
Additional Responsibilities
  • As part of the Safety Department, the Campus Safety Specialist will receive training in various operational aspects and may be assigned to special projects or events as needed. This may include conducting educational sessions on safety practices or assisting with administrative tasks related to campus safety.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
  • An Associate degree in Criminal Justice or a related field, along with completion of a Police Reserve Intermittent Academy;
  • Availability to work evening and weekend shifts, with on-call responsibilities;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as proficiency in computer applications;
  • A valid Driver's License with a clean driving record;
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field;
  • At least one year of experience in security or public safety roles is highly desirable.
