Position Summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. is seeking a qualified Welding Engineer for our Mount Vernon, Indiana location. The selected candidate will play a vital role in our manufacturing operations, engaging in the following key responsibilities:

  • Deliver welding engineering services for products manufactured in Mount Vernon.
  • Support welders and welding supervisors during critical welding processes.
  • Oversee welding operations to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Analyze customer contract specifications and develop procedures accordingly.
  • Assess weld filler metal requirements and manage procurement for welding activities.
  • Evaluate welding equipment needs and assist in its design and acquisition.
  • Review code specifications and formulate procedures for welder qualifications.
  • Promote quality and efficiency enhancements in welding operations.
  • Prepare and assess welding/fabrication plans, including sketches and instructions.
  • Document and maintain welding procedures and qualifications for welders/weld operators.
  • Troubleshoot welding issues, including equipment failures and weldability challenges.
  • Ensure all welding processes adhere to customer specifications and best practices.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, with preference given to those from an ABET accredited program.
  • Consideration will be given to candidates with degrees in Metallurgical or Material Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar fields, provided they have substantial welding-related experience.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment in a welding engineering capacity.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that foster collaboration and teamwork across diverse engineering, operations, and materials management teams.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required, with no dual citizenship, and the ability to obtain and maintain DOE Security Clearance.

Compensation and Benefits

The Welding Engineer will work a 9/80 schedule, receiving competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Market-leading salary range: $62,000 - $109,000.
  • Paid time off and winter holiday shutdown.

  • Service-based retirement contributions with additional 401k matching.

The base salary for this position is influenced by local market factors and may vary based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and other relevant considerations. Additional compensation elements may include annual cash incentives and a full range of benefits.
