Job Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse assists in assessing, planning, and delivering nursing care for a group of patients under the delegation of a Registered Nurse. This role involves providing basic nursing care, performing assessments, and participating in educational efforts within the department.
Responsibilities
- Provides nursing care requiring the application of basic knowledge of the biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences at the direction of a licensed provider or registered nurse.
- Assists in patient/family education as well as teaching staff members under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Performs assessment duties, including gathering information about patients' medical histories, symptoms, and treatment plans.
- Performs planning duties, such as developing individualized care plans and prioritizing tasks based on patient needs.
- Performs nursing care delivery duties, including administering medications, wound care, and vital sign checks.
- Participates in educational efforts within the department, including training new staff members and contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
- Performs other assigned tasks to promote efficient practice operation and contribute to quality patient care.
Requirements
- Must be able to work as part of a team and interact with people in a friendly, supportive manner at all times.
- Previous physician office experience is preferred.
- Ability to perform phlebotomy is preferred.
- Experience working with various levels within an organization is required.
- Experience in healthcare is preferred.
- Experience working in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
- Experience with an electronic medical record system (i.e. EPIC) is preferred.
Education and Experience
- Graduate from an accredited school of practical nursing is required.
- Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of Ohio is required.
- Must have or be able to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Must also have completed one of the following certifications: Ohio Medication Card, Ohio Organization of Practical Nurse Educators (OOPNES) Card, National Association for Practical Nurse Education Services (NAPNES) Card.
