ROLE FOCUS
This position requires a patient-centered approach in delivering treatments, conducting assessments, and managing all facets of patient care. You will have opportunities for professional development as an emergency veterinary technician, including pathways to Veterinary Technician Specialist certification and involvement in care coordination. Veterinary technicians will independently apply critical thinking and leadership skills to implement treatment plans in collaboration with the veterinary team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
All clinical team members are expected to:
- Provide compassionate and attentive care to each patient and client.
- Perform nursing care tasks, monitor patients, and administer treatments.
- Utilize knowledge of common conditions and physical assessments to triage incoming patients accurately.
- Administer medications via subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous routes, while being aware of potential side effects.
- Set up and manage intravenous fluid therapy, including blood transfusions.
- Assist with outpatient and inpatient care.
- Participate in patient rounds to ensure seamless care.
- Be trained in CPR as a RECOVER Certified Rescuer.
- Collect samples and conduct diagnostic tests, including imaging.
- Perform nursing tasks such as catheter placements and maintaining oxygen delivery systems.
Veterinary technicians also undertake:
- Monitoring patients under anesthesia, with or without mechanical ventilation.
- Advanced vascular access techniques, including catheter placements.
- Advanced diagnostic procedures, such as ultrasonography.
- Contributing to treatment and nursing care plans.
- Making clinical decisions based on established protocols.
- Managing patient care workloads to ensure high-quality service.
- Coaching veterinary assistants and nurses in clinical tasks.
- Collaborating with team members to enhance patient care.
- Seeking additional training for career advancement opportunities.
REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Credentialed as a veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT) in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification is preferred.
- Basic computer proficiency for practice management and electronic records.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a veterinary technician role, preferably in emergency or specialty settings.
- Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and electronic).
- Fine motor skills for operating medical equipment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift weights as required.
