Position Overview: The Sterile Processing Supervisor at Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the operations of the Sterile Processing department. This includes ensuring that new personnel receive adequate orientation and training, monitoring workflow and workload, and managing departmental supply requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the monthly scheduling and daily shift assignments for staff, providing performance evaluation feedback to the relevant manager.
  • Assist in the formulation of the departmental budget.
  • Coordinate daily activities related to decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, reprocessing, and sterilization of instruments, as well as the assembly of case carts.

Collaboration and Communication: Maintain a seamless workflow between the Operating Room (OR) and Sterile Processing, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. Serve as a primary resource for staff, fostering teamwork and effective communication with OR personnel to deliver timely sterile products and supplies.

Service Coordination: Facilitate the daily interface between sterile processing, surgery, and materials management, ensuring that all necessary supplies and instruments are available for service lines. Collaborate with the SP Liaison to prepare for upcoming surgical needs and anticipate supply requirements.

Quality Assurance: Act as the primary quality assurance resource for the department, conducting regular audits and revising policies to align with industry standards. Ensure adherence to Houston Methodist policies and regulatory guidelines.

Financial Oversight: Monitor staffing levels against budgetary targets, adjusting as necessary to meet operational goals. Provide daily reports to management regarding departmental needs and challenges.

Professional Development: Identify opportunities for practice improvements and support staff development through coaching and training initiatives. Ensure that all departmental staff are up-to-date with necessary in-services related to new products and procedural changes.

This position is integral to maintaining the high standards of service and quality at Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital, ensuring that all processes align with best practices in sterile processing.
