Pilgrim's Hatchery Operator Job Description

The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure the smooth operation of the hatchery. This involves performing various tasks to maintain the health and well-being of the animals, as well as ensuring the efficient production of eggs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct regular checks on machines to ensure proper functioning.
  • Verify that all eggs are properly stored and handled.
  • Monitor water chillers to ensure they are operating correctly.
  • Close all gates and clean the waste tank after each truck run.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment, including cleaning and replacing humidity and peroxide nozzles.
  • Disinfect all machines and areas with a backpack sprayer.
  • Assist with unloading and loading trucks.
  • Move egg dollies into machines as needed.
  • Call maintenance for repairs and assist as necessary.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, including 12-hour counts, temperature checks, and candle inspections.
Qualifications:
  • Able to work 12-hour night shifts.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
  • Able to read numbers.
Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in a hatchery or related field preferred.

License and Certification:

No specific licenses or certifications required.

Physical Demands:
  • Continuously: standing, walking.
  • Frequently: lifting, turning, twisting, bending, squatting, pushing, grasping, kneeling, reaching forward, pulling, stretching.
Work Environment:
  • Hot temperatures.
  • Wet floors.
Protective Equipment:
  • Ear plugs.
  • Gloves.
Safety Factors to be Aware of:
  • Know how to use and locate the emergency stop switch.
  • Know the location of primary and secondary emergency exits.
  • Know and use proper lifting techniques.
