Job Title: Statistical Assistant

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Statistical Assistant to join our team at Health Advocates Network. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science, and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in constructing actuarial tables by analyzing and presenting data.
  • Review the actuarial basis of plans and calculate premiums, evaluating premium rates, reserves, and liabilities.
  • Participate in field examinations of life insurance companies, fraternal benefit societies, health maintenance organizations, commercial carriers, non-profits, and retirement systems.
  • Prepare valuation memoranda and review health insurer rate submissions and statistical compilations.
  • Review insurance company rate filings and reserve analysis for compliance with standards.
  • Maintain in-house databases and review claims records and death and disability cases to establish proper estimates of eventual incurred losses.
  • Compute loss reserves for death and disability cases and calculate the present values of workers' compensation cases and the amount payable to claimants.
  • Calculate reserves for transfers, disability, and deferred allowances and compute cost-of-living factors for supplemental pensions paid to annuitants.
  • Check computations for valuation and service retirement allowance and assist with special projects and research as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree including 24 semester credit hours in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science.
  • Eligible to work in New York State.
  • Excellent verbal communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong project management skills, including experience managing multiple time-sensitive, complex projects simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including working experience with Excel, WebEx, and Zoom.
