Newborn Hearing Screener Job Description

This position is responsible for conducting basic newborn hearing screening testing on all newborns in the University of Virginia well-baby, transitional, and NICU nurseries prior to their discharge.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing automated auditory brainstem response and otoacoustic emission testing, as well as monitoring the results and reporting them to the audiology supervisor and attending physicians.

Additionally, the Newborn Hearing Screener will be responsible for tracking and maintaining documentation of all test results, ensuring that infants requiring follow-up receive diagnostic testing in a timely manner.

The ideal candidate will have a high school degree or equivalent and have completed newborn hearing screening training with a clinical audiologist.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct newborn hearing screening testing
  • Monitor and report test results
  • Track and maintain documentation of test results
  • Ensure timely follow-up for infants requiring diagnostic testing
Requirements:
  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Completed newborn hearing screening training
  • Basic knowledge of and experience utilizing a personal computer
  • Basic word processing skills
