Responsibilities

The Respiratory Therapy Technician will provide direct respiratory care to patients in acute, chronic, and emergency situations. They'll work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement respiratory care plans that meet the unique needs of each patient.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Selects, assembles, and checks respiratory care equipment for proper function, operation, and cleanliness
  • Mixes medications for aerosolization prior to treatment
  • Reviews patients' medical history, patient chart, respiratory care orders, physician examination, pulmonary function values, blood gas results, and additional laboratory data to assist in developing a respiratory care plan for the patient
  • Monitors and evaluates the patient's response to respiratory therapy and communicates findings to other members of the healthcare team to ensure coordination of optimal patient care
  • Initiates and administers emergency respiratory therapy techniques, including CPR, patient monitoring, and transport
