Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Weekend Hospice Nurse to join our interdisciplinary team at Iowa City Hospice. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of acute/crisis symptom management and excellent interpersonal communication skills.

This full-time position offers a compressed work schedule with benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, employer-paid life and disability insurance, and 19 days of vacation per year.

The Weekend Nurse will work autonomously, providing one-on-one care to patients and families in physical and emotional crisis situations. They will also collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, pharmacists, social workers, and volunteers, to identify and coordinate individual care needs.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for delivering exceptional patient-centered care, a commitment to confidentiality, and the ability to adapt to changing business needs. A current Iowa Registered Nurse License, Iowa driver's license, and ability to communicate in English are required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct care to patients as needed to address acute/crisis symptom management needs
  • Assess acute care needs and gather data on physical, social, spiritual, economic, and cultural factors that may influence the patient's quality of life
  • Communicate with primary physician as needed to implement interventions
  • Teach and counsel patients/families on care giving techniques
  • Document care and services provided to patient/family and report to primary team for follow up

Estimated Salary: $ 72,500 - 82,000 per year, depending on experience.
