Job Summary

Nantucket Cottage Hospital seeks a skilled pharmacist to join our team. As a respected member of our care team, you will participate in all aspects of patient care for our island residents and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a wide variety of pharmacist duties, including drug purchasing, distribution, sterile compounding, drug information, order entry, and review.
  • Work with the pharmacy team on departmental projects and with the inter-disciplinary team on hospital-wide projects.
  • Participate in patient education and rounding with the medical team, and participate in professional staff education and orientation.
  • Ensure all sterile compounding is prepared according to appropriate best practice.
  • Respond to codes, rapid responses, and announced emergencies.
  • Review, prepare, and dispense medication in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate each medication order for correct drug strength, dose, method of administration, and dosing interval.
  • Resolve medication order problems and non-formulary drug issues in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Review each patient's current orders for potentially clinically significant drug interactions.
  • Review and assist with medication reconciliation.
  • Convey appropriate recommendations to nursing and medical teams.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy required.
  • Prior licensed RPh experience of at least 2 years or 1-year residency preferred.
  • Hospital experience strongly preferred.
  • Current, valid Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy License required.
  • Prior hospital pharmacy experience with sterile compounding preferred.
Work Environment

The position generally works the day shift, but evening shift assignments and rotating on-call for nights, weekends, and holidays are required.

May be exposed to normal hospital environment, noise, chemotherapeutic, hazardous, and non-hazardous pharmaceutical substances.

Must be available to respond to work in the case of a hospital-declared emergency.
