Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Environmental Specialist to join our Ecology group in Parsippany, New Jersey. This position provides excellent growth opportunities for candidates to work with a diverse team of professionals on a variety of projects in the public and private sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage complex environmental projects, including preparing environmental permits in New Jersey and New York.
  • Prepare proposals and project budgets, assist with marketing and business development.
  • Lead wetland field investigations, delineations, and functional value assessments.
  • Lead threatened and endangered floral and faunal habitat assessments and targeted species surveys.
  • Prepare technical studies and reports, including wetland and ecological permit applications in accordance with Federal and state requirements.
  • Prepare NEPA and NJ Executive Order 215 EIS, EA, and CED documents.
  • Compile scope and fee for projects and tasks, assign tasks, communicate task expectations, and track status.
  • Complete project tasks within deadlines and work within allotted project budgets.
  • Responsible for QA/QC process, monitoring and managing project finances monthly.
  • Assist with mentoring junior environmental staff, marketing NV5 environmental capabilities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, ecology, botany, wildlife management, natural resources, or related field.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • Certified Wildlife Biologist or Professional Wetland Scientist preferred, but not required.
  • Strong northeastern flora and fauna identification skills.
  • Capable of leading wetland delineations, leading threatened and endangered species habitat assessments and targeted surveys.
  • Experience with US Army Corps of Engineers, New Jersey and New York permitting.
  • Experience working on NYDOT and NJDOT projects preferable.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Experience in managing junior staff, tasks, and projects.
What We Offer

NV5 offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including medical, dental, life insurance, PTO, 401(k), and professional development/advancement opportunities. The pay range for this position is $80,000-$100,000 per year, with the possibility of higher or lower base pay depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
